MCCF Release Destinations
Morris County Correctional Facility is the physical adult housing site for Sussex County inmates. A person may leave its custody for the community after bond, a pretrial order, time served, probation, or another lawful disposition. The same exit can also be a transfer. A sentence may send the person to NJDOC, while a detainer can lead to another county, USMS, BOP, or ICE.
The recorded MCCF disposition matters more than roster absence. Ask for the release date and time, release type, and destination or receiving agency if those fields exist. Then compare the Sussex court order and Sussex Sheriff movement record. A court disposition can explain why one hold ended, but only the jail movement record can place the physical exit in context.
Confirm an MCCF Release
Start with the facility record because MCCF controls the physical housing. New Jersey VINE can offer a quick status check or prior alert, but it is not a lasting release archive. A direct records request supplies the stronger documentary path.
- Gather the exact name, booking date range, Sussex complaint or case number, and any booking or SBI identifier.
- Call MCCF Records to ask whether the person remains housed and whether the maintained entry distinguishes release from transfer.
- Search VINE by name or ID, then verify the reporting facility and identifiers on the result.
- Review the Morris/Sussex court case for the signed order, judgment, dismissal, or probation sentence.
- Request the MCCF movement and release record, along with the related Sussex commitment or transport record.
- Follow any named receiving agency through its own official locator or records office.
The Sussex County released inmate lookup provides the full cross-system route when the destination is unclear. A phone statement that the person is absent should be preserved as a lead, not treated as the final record.
MCCF Release Records Contact
The official Sussex inmate-information page sends callers to MCCF Records. The line is staffed on the published schedule below, with a second number for other times and holidays. Ask about the specific booking episode. Staff may limit what they disclose by phone, so request the existing record when an exact date or disposition is needed.
43 John Street

A targeted request should name the person and approximate booking, then ask for admission, movement, release, and transfer entries. Request the recorded release date and time, disposition or release type, and receiving agency. Because Sussex retains commitment and transport responsibility, ask the Sussex Sheriff which parallel records it maintains. This two-custodian process reflects the actual arrangement.
Note: Phone staff may confirm a housing fact without supplying the full documentary reason for the person’s departure.
MCCF Housing Facts
MCCF opened in May 2000 and is operated by the Morris County Sheriff. The official Morris jail page reports 277 cells and a capacity of 524. For Sussex County, the key fact is not the cell count. MCCF is where adult Sussex commitments are housed under shared services.
The facility page and release record serve different roles. The public facility material explains operations and contact routes. It does not publish a Sussex 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. No official online retention period or release-processing schedule was found. Call for a current authorized pickup question and use a dated record for a past release.
MCCF Release Property Limits
The MCCF general information page says accumulated property may be sent out at the inmate’s expense or picked up by a friend or relative, by request, on a scheduled visiting day. That is a during-custody practice. No official post-release walk-up property window was found, so a former detainee should confirm the current process directly.
MCCF also lists cash, money order, or cashier’s check as accepted forms for bail, fine, fee, and probation payments at the facility. Payment acceptance does not prove that release processing finished. Another hold may remain, staff may still need to complete movement entries, or a receiving agency may take custody. Keep the receipt, court order, and final movement record as separate evidence.
Read MCCF Release Fields
A complete release inquiry ties the person, booking episode, and exit event together. Names and aliases help identify the person. Booking numbers, admission dates, arresting agencies, and complaint identifiers identify the episode. Release date, time, type, and destination describe the exit. A booking photo may be maintained separately and can face added limits.
| Field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Release date and time | The recorded administrative exit from MCCF. |
| Release type | Bond, time served, transfer, or another exact disposition label. |
| Destination | Whether the person entered the community or another custodian. |
| Case identifiers | Which Sussex or Morris matter connects to the booking. |
Use the agency’s exact wording. “Transferred to NJDOC” is not interchangeable with “released.” If one field is blank, compare the receiving system and court record rather than guessing.
After an MCCF Release
If the person entered NJDOC, search by SBI number and inspect Current Facility, Initial Admission Date, and later Date Out-of-Custody. If the person went to USMS, there is no public Marshals locator; use the federal docket and holding facility. BOP covers federal sentenced custody, while ICE ODLS is the immigration route. Each system records only its own part of the chain.
For a community exit, the person may still be on probation or parole. Probation comes from the court. Parole follows prison custody under the State Parole Board. The Morris Reentry Program also offers transition planning, document and identification support, service coordination, and continued case management for people housed at MCCF. Those services help with reentry, but the release papers remain the source for reporting terms and the official exit status.
Request MCCF Release Records
A documentary request should be narrow enough for the custodian to locate the episode. Supply the full name and known aliases, approximate admission date, Sussex complaint or court number, arresting agency, booking number, and SBI number when lawfully available. Ask for the admission record, movement history, release or discharge entry, transfer record, and the field showing destination or receiving agency. If a booking photograph is needed for a lawful record purpose, ask for that specific image as a separate item because it may be stored apart from the movement file.
Send a corresponding request to Sussex because the Sheriff retains responsibility for the Sussex commitment and transports. Ask each custodian to identify which responsive records it maintains. A Morris record may establish the physical exit, while Sussex holds the transport or local commitment entry. If one agency denies a field, request a written legal basis and segregation of any nonexempt portion. Juvenile, sealed, expunged, investigative, security, and privacy material may be withheld or redacted.
New Jersey OPRA generally uses a seven-business-day response benchmark, subject to other statutory periods, storage issues, and extensions. Paper rates are generally five cents for letter-size copies and seven cents for legal-size copies, with actual cost for other media. Those timing and fee rules do not create an instant phone confirmation. For a recent event, call first, preserve what staff say, and then seek the dated record.
MCCF Court Release Check
The Sussex criminal case can explain why MCCF authority ended. PROMIS/Gavel may show a pretrial order, dismissal, plea, judgment, probation, or time served. The Sussex Criminal Records Room supplies durable court records through Judiciary procedures, not county OPRA. A signed order is stronger than a docket summary for its legal terms.
Still, the court record does not establish the exact jail-door time or cancel an unrelated hold. Compare the order with the MCCF release timestamp and destination. If the order predates the physical exit, keep both times. The gap may reflect normal processing or another detainer review, not an error.
